A B Graphic International (ABG) has supplied a new, wider web Digicon Series 3 finishing system to Norwegian label converter Digital Etikett. The company, which has maintained a long-standing relationship with ABG since installing its first Digicon 17 years ago, has invested in a total of eight ABG machines over this period.

Digital Etikett’s latest investment offers a 540mm web width, joining ABG’s existing 330mm and 430mm models. This unit delivers the same high level of performance and build quality the range is known for. Developed in response to growing demand for wider digital print formats, the new Digicon offers greater flexibility for finishing work produced on the latest digital press technology.

“We’ve purchased the 540 Digicon to support growing capacity needs and to propel production upwards,” says Øyvin Tørvi, factory manager at Digital Etikett. “It runs alongside our 510mm Durst press and has proved to be a reliable, well-integrated addition to the factory. Plus, it also looks good. The machine is built to last, and in the 17 years we’ve been using ABG equipment, we’ve had only a few days of downtime in total. Importantly, as is common in our industry, there is a real struggle to recruit, and the automation helps us with these ongoing labour challenges.”

The installation also includes ABG’s new AMS (Automatic Matrix Stripping) module, currently patent-pending and set to be officially launched later this year. This helps reduce waste, further improving efficiencies and simplifying production.

ABG’s Digicon Series 3, built on over 30 years of expertise, is a fully modular platform that is customizable to meet specific production needs. The 540 Digicon offers a versatile range of modules, including ABG’s powerful Big Foot 50-ton hot foil and embossing unit, ideal for premium embellishment applications.

Dave Casey, ABG’s group commercial manager, adds, “Digital Etikett’s decision to invest in the 540 is a reflection of our long-term partnership and their confidence in the robustness and reliability of our technology. They know they’re buying equipment that delivers consistent results and is built to handle high volumes with minimal disruption.”

Matt Burton, ABG’s global sales director, concludes, “As digital printing continues to mature, customers require high levels of automation, higher speeds, flexibility of web widths and deskilling to keep up, which is exactly what our latest Digicon offers.”
